The promise to donate time & resources to charitable organizations that have a positive impact on their community is an integral part of Volatile‘s mission. Today, we had the pleasure of working with David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation as volunteers for their 1st Annual Survival of the Mills 5K/Duathlon/Triathlon.
At 730am, Wells Mills Park in Waretown, NJ was full of athletes of all levels – novice joggers, seasoned runners, and trained triathletes. Many came from the local area, but some traveled from as far north as upstate New York and as far south as Kentucky! A tried & true crew from CrossFit Absecon stayed together through the entire race, and Amy Carreño of the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences took to the trails on a solo adventure. Although the crowd was diverse, they all had something in common – they were running for a cause.
David’s Dream & Believe Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that raises funds to provide financial assistance to New Jersey families battling the effects of cancer diagnosis. Monies raised through their annual events directly benefit these families. Depending on their needs, the Foundation assists with obligations such as the cost of living, bills, medication, treatments & transportation, and offers unparalleled moral support. David is personally involved in the Foundation’s relationships with patients, and is often the one hand delivering checks or gift cards to families needing help. The athletes who participated in today’s Survival of the Mills have made it possible for DDBCF to continue to make a difference.
The Survival of the Mills race is only one of many events that are held with philanthropic purpose. The Foundation will close out 2014 with Crabbin’ for a Cure at Mud City Crab House in Manahawkin, NJ on October 22nd. Tickets are still available, and all proceeds will benefit the Foundation. In 2015, you can look forward to laid-back nights of bowling & baseball, community gatherings such as block parties, barbecues, & surf contests, and even an adult soiree of the gala variety! There’s so much more to share, and we know your time is valuable, so we recommend you visit their website & become a fan on Facebook. A quick click of your mouse means more than you know, and doing so will keep you up-to-date on all of David Dream & Believe‘s fantastic, feel good events. We hope to see you soon!
